Meta announces the retirement of Instant Articles

Facebook continues to shift away from news content with the announcement that it will be retiring its Instant Articles offering in April next year. Originally launched in 2015, Instant Articles were designed to provide publishers with a more engaging, fast-loading way to present their articles on Facebook, helping to maximize reader engagement within the app. The shift makes a lot of sense as social media is moving more towards entertainment, as opposed to enabling people to share their opinions on every news story and topic that comes their way.
